Alice’s Worlds: Dreaming Wonderland
Alice’s Worlds: Dreaming Wonderland is an exhibition commissioned by the Victoria Albert Museum (UK) and Caixa Forum (Barcelona). It shows the influence of Alice in the world and how the themes and ideas raised in the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland continue to be relevant.
Eléctrico 28 has created the playful dimension of the exhibition: spaces for playing, for touching, for talking to a phone, for having irreverent conversations, for some existential reflections, and for facilitating a dialogue with Alice.
“Hello visitors. This is Lewis Carroll speaking. Yes… I know it must seem strange being greeted by the author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland…. but what did you expect?
You remind me of Alice! A keen observer, sharp, clever… still here and there. She’s never stopped transforming and imagining the impossible”.
A wall with a series of window-holes through which limbs or complete bodies can pass. Like Alice, the visitor puts their body in relation to the proportions of the place. They may feel small, or too big.
What a slight oddity when a visitor appears in a room through a hole and not through the main door.
Somewhere inside the exhibition, the visitor encounters a table with three different decks of cards, two chairs, and a mirror. The game consists of having a conversation (about time, proportion, or identity) by alternately playing dialogue cards, leaving the outcome to the power of chance.
For sure it will be irreverent. A brief Wonderland-style conversation.
After having received a lot of information and stimuli throughout the exhibition, it is time for tranquillity, some rest and introspection.
An intimate audio takes the visitor on a kind of guided meditation provoking a somnolent state which emotionally connects the present world to Wonderland.
With our mediation, we want:
– the visitor to find themselves in situations in which they must intervene, decide or doubt, like Alice.
– to provoke a physical a physical experience in the visitor.
– let the visitors connect today’s world with wonderland.
