Human Reconfiguration
At a time when we ask ourselves, with or without sense, what truly makes us human, Human Reconfiguration proposes an immersive sound protocol that sparks reflections on what we call artificial and human. What if, in the future, we needed an update, an adjustment, to remember how to be human? A small upgrade. A quick reminder. A gentle reset. Or, put another way: a kind of accelerated course in humanization. A human reconfiguration.
Human Reconfiguration functions as a short, effective, and, in theory, harmless course. For 20 minutes, participants are guided through a futuristic protocol that promises to restore essential capacities such as intuition, error, and presence. But they soon discover that the system is not as reliable as it seems.
A space to experience the absurdity of trying to optimize what is, by nature, imperfect.
Human Reconfiguration is designed for the Fundació Carulla, within the framework of the plenary Mutare 2025, focused on “Culture and ARTificial Intelligence.” The project, curated by Domestic Data Streamers, addresses the impact of AI on the right to access and participate in culture.
Eléctrico 28 creates this immersive, performative format so that participants can engage with the topic physically, emotionally, and collaboratively.
The audience enters an empty space, guided by Dídac Lluc, an expert in intelligent humanization protocols. He invites them to take part in a demo of a supposed advanced software, designed to apply a protocol that promises to “reconfigure” the participants.
This protocol is meant to awaken their most human capacities through a series of modules guided by an AI voice. That voice does not want to sound human, yet it cannot help doing so.
Participants go through a series of bodily activations, sensory evocations, unplanned intuitions, and subtle interactions between bodies. As the experience unfolds, the absurdity of the device becomes increasingly evident… but so does its ability to provoke connection, memory, movement, and presence.
At the end, when the system tries to measure each person’s degree of humanization, it gets stuck. The AI collapses—not because it fails, but because it cannot respond to what is not its domain. And what was meant to be an evaluation turns into a confession: there is no algorithm capable of saying what truly makes us human. Only questions remain.
